Written by DCCV on April 2nd, 2009The Democratic Club of the Conejo Valley, Tuesday, April 7 meeting will be held at 6:30 PM at the Newbury Park Library. This is a change as we usually meet on Wednesdays.
Our guest will be Dr. Russell A. Burgos, Middle East Military Program Director – Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation at UCSD and Professor in the Global Studies program at UCLA.
Dr. Burgos, a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and a resident of Thousand Oaks, will present “Obama’s Iraq Problem: A Long View”. Dr. Burgos will present and discuss the following: although combat operations may cease, the U.S.-Iraqi strategic relationship will persist for decades to come, and defining that relationship — a challenge in “normal” times — will be manifestly more difficult for a president facing economic crisis at home and abroad, the enduring challenge of Arab-Israeli peace, and an expanding insurgency in Afghanistan.

They welcome all non-perishable items but are especially in need of canned pasta, mac & cheese, easily prepared main courses, toilet paper, grocery bags and egg cartons. We donate to a selected charity at each monthly meeting including Manna every quarter.We will also welcome new members, discuss general club business and upcoming events.
