Democratic Club of the Conejo Valley – Tuesday (not Wednesday), April 7, 2009, 6:30 PM, Monthly General Meeting, Newbury Park Library

Written by DCCV on April 2nd, 2009
Summary:

The Democratic Club of the Conejo Valley, Tuesday, April 7 meeting will be held at 6:30 PM at the Newbury Park Library. This is a change as we usually meet on Wednesdays.

Our guest will be Dr. Russell A. Burgos, Middle East Military Program Director – Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation at UCSD and Professor in the Global Studies program at UCLA.

Dr. Burgos, a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and a resident of Thousand Oaks, will present “Obama’s Iraq Problem: A Long View”. Dr. Burgos will present and discuss the following: although combat operations may cease, the U.S.-Iraqi strategic relationship will persist for decades to come, and defining that relationship — a challenge in “normal” times — will be manifestly more difficult for a president facing economic crisis at home and abroad, the enduring challenge of Arab-Israeli peace, and an expanding insurgency in Afghanistan.

Please join us for this fascinating presentation and please bring donated items for Manna, the local food bank in Thousand Oaks.  They welcome all non-perishable items but are especially in need of canned pasta, mac & cheese, easily prepared main courses, toilet paper, grocery bags and egg cartons.  We donate to a selected charity at each monthly meeting including Manna every quarter. We will also welcome new members, discuss general club business and upcoming events.
